Watch The German Artillery Battalion 131 Joining Forces With More Than Nine NATO Countries During Exercise Dynamic Front II

March 10, 2017

This is why NATO exists: interoperability and cooperation. With participation from the NATO nations of Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Romania, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States; Exercise Dynamic Front II kicked off at the 7th Army Training Command’s Grafenwoehr Training Area, Germany. Dynamic Front II is an artillery operability exercise that focuses on developing solutions to identify gaps and limitations within the theater level fires system by executing multi-echelon fires and test interoperability at the tactical level with Artillery Systems Cooperation Activities (ASCA) and aspiring ASCA members in a live environment.

This video presents German soldiers, assigned to Artillery Battalion 131, conducting fire missions. There, 1,400 participants from the nine NATO nations work with ASCA, which allows nations to digitally communicate automatically by linking their field artillery/fire support command and control systems. A leap forward in the communications at the tactical level in one of the most important areas in the battlefield.
