Kentucky Officers Surprise Community With Free Gift Cards For Groceries

January 12, 2017

In Lousiville, Kentucky, Kroger shoppers are enjoying some free gift cards courtesy of their local police department.

The partnership between the police and Kroger gave officers $2000 worth of gift cards to present to customers randomly. LMPD Officer Roger Collins spoke on the importance of reaching out to their community and giving something back to promote unity.

“This is the best part of our job. We talk about about quality of life and advancing quality of life for the citizens here. Advancing quality of life is not just arresting and taking violent criminals off the street but it’s also about being able to advance the quality of life in the community service way,” said Officer Collins.

Some of the patrons were moved to tears.

“I was shocked that the police are actually good people, people who do good things,” said Krystal Groves, wiping a tear from her eye.

The officers plan to make this an annual event.
