Jesse Ventura Loses Appeal To Reinstate $1.8M Verdict Against “American Sniper” Chris Kyle’s Estate

January 09, 2017

Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura lose his bid for reinstatement of a $1.8 million verdict in his defamation case against the estate of Navy SEAL and “American Sniper” author Chris Kyle.

The justices did not comment on Monday about keeping the decision of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to upend the 2014 verdict, in place.

Earlier this year, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the jury’s 2014 award of $500,000 for defamation and $1.3 million for unjust enrichment against Kyle’s estate.

The 2014 film “American Sniper” was based on slain Navy SEAL Chris Kyle’s autobiography.

Ventura has issues with Chris Kyle’s claim that he punched Ventura at a bar in 2006 for his offensive comments about the Navy SEALs. Ventura testified at trial that the story was a fabrication and that the book ruined his reputation.

The case may return to Minnesota for a new trial.
