Evacuation At Trump Tower Caused By Unattended Bag Of Toys
A “suspicious package” caused chaos and confusion at Trump Tower in Manhattan on Tuesday, forcing the NYPD bomb squad to respond and evacuate the building “out of an abundance of caution.” The scare unfolded at approximately 4:30 PM, but the NYPD declared the situation at “all clear” shortly after 5 PM when it was revealed that the suspicious package was just an unattended bag of toys.
A bomb sniffing dog was brought in to investigate the package. The dog sat on the bag, indicating it was an explosive, resulting in the building being briefly evacuated. Several videos of the evacuation have been posted to various social media sites and show glimpses of people in the lobby being rushed outside.
Trump Tower is the home of President-elect Donald Trump and is currently used as a headquarters for the Trump Organization. The 58-story skyscraper in Manhattan is located on Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th streets. The NYPD reportedly closed down the entire vicinity on Madison Avenue between 55th and 58th street until the suspicious package was deemed safe, according to New York Times reporter Sarah Maslin Nir.
During the time of the scare, Donald Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago resort home in Palm Beach, Florida.
