NFL star and New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. usually makes headlines for making great plays during the game, but it was what he did before the game that was the greatest play of the day.
Beckham Jr. showed a display of pure class by shaking the hands of every soldier leaving the field after the national anthem was finished being played and performed by recording artist JoJo.
“For someone to sacrifice everything that they have for others — just the concept of it — it gives me chills,” Beckham told Sporting News. “I don’t even know how to explain it. They sacrifice everything. It’s unselfish. Whether it’s right or wrong, they do it and I appreciate it.”
“The line was a little long. I didn’t know,” Beckham told the Sporting News. “I got halfway through it and I had to ask one of them, ‘How many is y’all?’ He said, ‘There’s a lot of us.’ I said, ‘Well, I really appreciate what y’all do.'”
During the New York Giant season opener, Beckham Jr. wore customized cleats to honor the victims that died during the September 11 terrorist attack 15 years earlier.
