For decades, Russia has been the natural and logical adversary of the United States. Once an unlikely ally during World War II, Russia’s ideological turn at the beginning of the 20th century positioned it in a straight-on collision course against the emerging power of the New World. Diametrically opposing positions in politics and economics put the briefly allied countries at each other’s throats while leaving the rest of the world fearing the advent of the third world war.

After the decline and disintegration of the old Soviet empire, Russia stroke an new uneasy pact with their once old adversary. But it wasn’t meant to last. Not by a long shot.
