July 20, 2016

Rachel Richardson is one of many military wives that lost their husband while fighting overseas. It has been six years since her husband, a fire support specialist assigned to 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment C Company, was killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan.

Rachel has been invited to 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division’s ball every year. The military community has served as a surrogate for Rachel. Providing her with emotional support and the resources needed to get back on her feet and readjust to life without her husband. She has also become involved with Gold Star Wives. Gold Star Wives is a group of widows and widowers that lost their spouses to combat. They focus on the needs and welfare of the families of veterans that sacrificed their lives.

Rachel is extremely grateful for the support she receives from both organizations. She describes the balls that she is invited to as “an opportunity to meet new heroes and family members.” She has been so grateful that she wanted to return the favor and introduce many of the military members at the ball to one of their heroes, Mat Best. She made a video inviting Best to the ball as her date so he could mingle with the military community the both know and love.

Mat Best is a former U.S. Army Ranger turned insanely popular social media star. His videos feature hilarious satirical videos of military life and Best and his friends exercising their Second Amendment rights. He is a walking, talking, embodiment of rough and tumble attitude and ingenious wit that makes America great. Rachel’s video went viral and when Best caught wind of it he had to respond. He created a video of his own, one that is far more tame than the other content on his youtube channel but just as entertaining. Watch the video below to see his response, it may surprise you!
