A Close Look At The Deadly Turkish TAI/AgustaWestland T129 Attack Helicopter

March 04, 2016

Rarely, a military-civilian partnership outside of America works out this well. It’s one of those partnerships that really achieved what they set up to do to begin with. Meet the Turkish TAI/AgustaWestland T129 attack helicopter.

Based on the Agusta A129 Mangusta, it integrates Turkish developed high-tech avionics and weapon systems onto the combat proven AgustaWestland A129 airframe, with upgraded engines, transmission and rotor blades. It was developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in partnership with AgustaWestland, as an attack and tactical reconnaissance helicopter designed for hot and high altitude environments. It will carry 12 Roketsan-developed UMTAS anti-tank missiles and feature a 20mm gatling-style cannon in a nose turret. It can also carry a combination of 70mm rocket pods, Stinger air-air missile pods, and gun pods on its stub wing pylons. Really  badass.

Do you think the Turkish T-129 can compete nose-to-nose with their Russian counterparts? Sound off and share your opinions and comments in the section below!
