The UK Has Begun Using US Forces In The Same Way Which Lead To The War Of 181214775442674_57ba8767b3_k-1024x680
Before you get too nervous, don’t worry, they asked and we agreed.
The UK navy has intentionally shrunk over the past 16 years to the point in which they have become unable to fully crew their vessels.
Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Paul F. Zukunft and Adm. Sir George Zambellas recently met to go over the situation and see how the US could help.
To sweeten the deal to get Coast Guardsmen to join his UK crews, Zambellas offered to pay all change of station costs and make sure those who came lived “the great European lifestyle.”
Zukunft agreed and now 36 members of the Coast Guard are headed to Britain. Wish them luck!
From We Are The Mighty:
The United Kingdom’s Navy is experiencing a big manpower shortage brought on by years of intentional recruiting shortfalls. As a result the British approached the U.S. to help fill the gaps, but the needed help came from the Coast Guard not the Navy.
The first time the Royal Navy used American Navy personnel it resulted in the War of 1812. Now, more than 200 years later, the discussion is much more amicable.
