CONFIRMED: Paris Attack Mastermind Killed In Raid, Tied To At Least 2 Other Failed Plots

Today, French officials confirmed the death of 27 year old Belgian national and mastermind of last week’s Paris attack Abdelhamid Abaaoud, is dead.

French authorities said it took longer than usual to identify the body due to it being riddled with bullets. They used skin samples to make the identification.

It’s unclear whether Abaaoud was killed by the bullets from the almost 5,000 rounds French police shot into the apartment or by his cousin Hasna Aitboulahcen who blew herself up inside the apartment.

Aitboulahcen, got into a prolonged conversation with authorities after yelling “Help Me! Help Me!.” When police asked her where “her boyfriend” [Abaaoud], she shouted “He’s not my boyfriend!”

As police began to raid the building, she detonated the suicide belt in a blast so powerful that it collapsed the floor and sent her spine hurtling down the street.

Abaaoud has also been identified as being behind two other foiled attacks: a would-be shooting at a Paris church in April and the Paris train shooting that was stopped by three heroic Americans.

From The New York Daily News:

French authorities announced the death of suspected Paris attack mastermind Abdelhamid Abaaoud and his suicide bomber cousin Thursday, officially confirming two deaths already known to the world for a day.

Media reports broke the news of Abaaoud’s death after a massive raid Wednesday, but French officials did not specify the suspect’s fate until Thursday’s announcement. Abaaoud’s female cousin Hasna Aitboulahcen died after detonating an explosives vest, police said.

Authorities identified Abaaoud, a 27-year-old Belgian national, through skin samples after finding his barely recognizable corpse in a suburban Paris apartment, Paris Prosecutor Francois Molins said.
