July 23, 2015

During training exercises on Saturday, an SM-2 missile being fired from the destroyer The Sullivans, exploded as it was being fired from the forward missile deck.

Damage was caused the the port side of the ship and a fire broke out.

Luckily the missile did not have a warhead activated and no one was hurt due to the malfunction. Crews worked quickly and diligently to fix the issues. Investigations are now underway to determine what went wrong and who, if anyone, is to blame for what could have been a catastrophic event.
