USS Independence docks in Pearl Harbor for joint exercises with Chinese (2 videos)

The USS Independence (LCS 2) arrived in Pearl Harbor July 6 for Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2014. Below are two views of the Littoral Combat ship, first entering the harbor and then docking.

Twenty-two nations, 48 ships and 6 submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 26 to Aug. 1, in and around the Hawaiian Islands.

Units from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Columbia, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the People’s Republic of China, Peru, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga, the United Kingdom and the United States will participate.

The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans. RIMPAC 2014 is the 24th exercise in the series that began in 1971.
