Why He Prefers Life as a Mortarman in Afghanistan
Lance Corporal Jordan Pettid explains life as a mortarman in the Marine Corps in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Pettid is a mortarman with 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment (1/7).
Like a lot of young men, LCpl Pettid joined the Marine Corps to deploy, to face America’s enemies.
Pettid’s goals for the future are to advance in his military occupational specialty (MOS) and, most importantly, to learn how to lead junior Marines. Those leadership skills and principles will take him anywhere else he wants to go.
