(VIDEO) The French Say Thanks For D-Day: Watch Them Drop A Million Rose Petals On The Statue of Libertyfrench-never-forget-dday-620x350
Frenchmen dropped a million rose petals on the Statue of Liberty Friday, a way of saying thanks for ending Adolf Hitler’s control of Europe in 1944.
More than 9,000 American soldiers died that day, allowing a huge army of 100,000 to sweep across France and into Germany.
The French Will Never Forget organization dropped the petals with the help of two helicopters midday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day, according to the Washington Post.
Just as Americans see D-Day as the day we knew Hitler would lose, the French see that day as the beginning of their country’s liberation.
