The punishment is in for the soldier who refused to salute the US flag and posted about it on Instagram, although we won’t know what that punishment is. According to local reports, the military has said it will involve “administrative action” which is taken care of by a unit commander, which means that she will not receive a court-martial, since that would be public information.
The Army is declining to publicly disclose any possible punishment for a Colorado soldier depicted in an Instagram that included comments saying she deliberately avoided saluting the flag.
The incident involving Pfc. Tariqka Sheffey, who is stationed at Fort Carson, touched off a military investigation and a storm of criticism.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that the decision not to disclose any punishment means Sheffey will not be court-martialed.
The Army said Friday that it had completed its investigation and any punishment would be handled administratively by a unit commander. It says Army policy is not to disclose administrative actions.
